Acupuncture
Clinical research has been conducted showing positive results in the treatment of both animals and humans, and the use of acupuncture is increasing. Acupuncture will not cure every condition, but it can work very well when it is indicated.
Acupuncture is indicated for functional problems such as those that involve paralysis, noninfectious inflammation (such as allergies), and pain. For small animals, the following are some of the general conditions which may be treated with acupuncture:
- Musculoskeletal problems, such as arthritis, intervertebral disk disease, or traumatic nerve injury
- Respiratory problems, such as feline asthma
- Skin problems such as lick granulomas and allergic dermatitis
- Gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea
- Selected reproductive problems
Dental
A preventable and common cause of pets not living their full life expectancy is dental disease. For this reason, we maintain a strong focus on dental care.
Radiology and ultrasound
We have onsite digital radiology services to be able to perform x-rays on your pet.
We have an on site, state-of-the-art ultrasound machine to facilitate abdominal and thoracic imaging.
Laboratory and Pathology
Our Clinic has access to a large number of laboratory aids. Our in-house laboratory can be of assistance if your pet has an emergency or acute illness. Blood tests, serum chemistries, electrolytes, blood gasses, faecal and urinalyses can all be tested within minutes.
Pre-anaesthetic Blood Tests
Pre-anaesthetic blood tests are performed to improve anaesthetic safety. They measure liver and kidney enzymes, blood glucose, protein, and red and white blood cells, and therefore provide information regarding kidney and liver function. Since anaesthetic agents are metabolised in these organs, any problems represent a risk for general anaesthesia.
These blood profiles are recommended for any animal undergoing general anaesthesia, regardless of age, since even young, healthy animals may have an underlying condition. Some of these are congenital or inherited problems, some infectious, and early treatment of these conditions can make a real difference.
The blood test is usually performed on the morning of surgery. If any significant discrepancies are detected, you will be contacted to discuss the next recommended step. This may involve delaying the procedure, putting the animal on a drip during anaesthesia to support the circulatory system, or further investigation of the problem.
Pre-anaesthetic profiles are optional. Please inform the admissions nurse on the morning of your pet’s procedure if you would like this test carried out.
